Sure, it’s a bit preachy, and part of you will want to ignore it because it might be painful to realize, but the point is still valid.
It’s easy to get caught up in thinking we “need” when really we “want.” And to further compound this problem is the fact that these “wants” are hollow pursuits that we quickly become adapted to.
We get what we “want” and that lasts a few days before we “want” something else. We are constantly moving from “want” to “want.”
I sound’t have to tell you how much of a problem this is.
And it applies to everything in life: food, relationships, friends, exercise programs, hobbies, and so much.
We always seek out, “What’s next?”
Then, every so often, we have a breakdown. In a way, this usually “resets” us so we can continue the same patterns. The wise learn from these breakdowns and get better the next go-round. Everyone else convinces themselves of whatever biases their brain manufactures for them before going on to do the same exact thing.
Listen, I write this because I want to help you, not put you down.
If you take the time to think about just one thing in your life, and it leads to you making just one better decision, then I have succeeded. If you do more than that, that’s incredible. (I hope you do.)
Every single conscious choice we make in life is a chance to be better, the same, or significantly worse. Most people fall in the middle somewhere, doing a bit of each on a regular basis.
But you don’t have to be “most people.” You can be better. You can make better decisions, no matter how small, on a regular basis and reap the benefits.
You don’t need to do a complete 360 and change your life overnight. Just start being better. Whatever that means to you, be better.
