Some people believe in destiny and some don’t. I believe in destiny in that it is what will happen based on what I do or don’t do.
As Caesar told Brutus, it is what we do that matters.
Life has a limitless supply of random variation. This is what some call “luck.” Of course, luck is just an expression of the bell curve: It is a random occurrence that we perceive as beneficial and label as such.
In competition, you might get “unlucky” because you are judged harshly on a rep, or you trip over barbell, or you get injured. On the flip side, you may get “lucky” because your judge doesn’t “no rep” you for those questionable dips and you finish first as a result.
In life, you may be “unlucky” because the love of your life is married. On the flip side, you might get “lucky” because you happen to meet the love of your life while you are both single.
And so on. It’s all random. Life is random.
Each random instance that passes your life is an expression of Murphy’s Law—what can happen may happen; which is often said, incorrectly, “what can go wrong will go wrong.” Obviously, what can go wrong doesn’t always go wrong or we would all be dead. That said, Murphy’s theory is a powerful reminder that life is a random series of events that we can in no way fully prepare for, which is why we should always do everything we can to minimize the chances that the worst will happen by proactively taking action to build the life we want.
By taking action, you are more likely to get lucky while the less likely you are at being unlucky.
Another way to minimize unfortunate occurrences, as well as maximize the chances of fortunate ones, is to be prepared. Eating clean promotes health, as does exercise to increase your chances of living a long life. Training increases work capacity, which benefits you in a competition setting. Learning prepares you for the various work and life situations you will face. And on and on.
If you want to have a say in how lucky you are in life, you must be proactive. You have prepare as much as possible. You have to train your body, mind and spirit.
By taking action you increase the chances you get “lucky,” and you decrease the chances you get “unlucky.”
