New Meta-Analysis Connects High Dose Fish Oil Supplements with Decreased Cardiovascular Death Possibility
Abstract
Objective
This study investigates the relationship between fish oil supplementation and cardiovascular health outcomes.
Context
Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA which have anti-inflammatory properties. Their role in reducing cardiovascular disease conerns has been examined in many studies.
Methods Used
A meta-analysis was conducted on randomized controlled trials of fish oil supplementation. Trials reporting cardiovascular events and mortality were included.
Researchers' Summary of Findings
Higher dosages of fish oil supplements were associated with lower cardiovascular mortality. No significant association was seen for cardiovascular events.
Health Implications
These results suggest fish oil supplementation may have a protective effect against cardiovascular mortality. More research is needed on optimal dosage.
