Personal Responsibility
"The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your destiny." – Albert Ellis.
We believe in personal responsibility here at Wild Foods.
Your successes in life are the result of your own doing. Anyone that tries telling you that you got lucky is ignorant. They don't understand what "lucky" actually is. Plenty of famous people have said, "Luck is preparation meeting opportunity," or as Coleman Cox said, "I am a great believer in luck. The harder I work, the more of it I seem to have."
What you do determines how "lucky" you get in life and precisely what you get in everything from relationships, health, career, and so on.
If you want better health, you will only get it by working for it (and choosing the best food products you put in your body). Thus, you are responsible for your health.
If you want better relationships, you will get them by investing time and energy into making them better.
If you want more results at work, you will get them by focusing on what you can do and not what you can complain about (which is a concept lost on many employees).
When you learn that your life is in your own hands—and only yours—you see the power you have. And this is the first step to utilizing that power.
So many people spend so much time complaining. The thing is, complaining ends up bringing you more of what you are complaining about. It's a law of the universe. What you focus on, you get more of. You can call it the law of attraction, but it holds. When you focus on what you can do, you spend more time doing it, and as a result, you get the results you want.
When you spend time complaining, you contribute to what you are complaining about and will get more.
It all comes down to personal responsibility. You have the choice to focus on what you want to focus on.
Life is either a fantastic gift that should be savored each waking moment, or it is depressing, stressful, and full of problems.
The fact is, life is both of those. Depending on where you look, you will find suffering or joy; killing or saving lives; building or destroying; and on and on.
It's all about your perspective. And perspective is your responsibility.
What kind of life do you want?
For most of us, the answer is a happy one. The problem is we seek happiness in ways that don't bring us joy. I won't go into all that, but I recommend reading a few books or articles on the science of happiness. There's been groundbreaking work in the last 15 years in this area of research.
My advice is to focus on the positive and take responsibility for your life. These two single things have the power to build a wonderful life. But they do not come easily or naturally. You have to take them.
