A Mantra For Life
“If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.” ― E.B. White.
Try new things and help people—a great mantra to live by.
We can all relate to Mr. White here.
Most of us, anyway.
Some are fortunate to have found the thing they enjoy doing that also improves the world.
For many, this is not the case. For many, life is about finding what they can be passionate about. And this “finding” can take years and is often a frustrating experience when those around them have figured it out.
But such is the journey we all must take in life.
My advice: Experiment.
You have to try many things in life. Some will stick, and some will be something you tried once, but all will be useful.
Just trying stuff isn’t the answer, though. You also have to try things and help people. The best is when you try stuff while helping people. That’s the golden ticket.
- Intern at a non-profit
- Volunteer your time with a handful of organizations
- Work with a school to teach an after-school class on something you are passionate about
- And so on
Try as many different things as possible.
This will make you a more enjoyable, worldly, and fulfilled person.
