Accept The Things To Which Fate Bind You
“Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.”
― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
I used to have this quote set up in Google calendar, scheduled to go off every day to send me an email and text reminder so I could reread it. It’s that good.
When I read these words, I think about life and how each person experiences their circumstances uniquely. I try to fathom that no person is the same, and no one will ever live with the same energy.
It’s unfathomable if you try to think about it—like the idea of infinity or the distance between stars. But it is still something we need to remind ourselves of for ourselves.
We need to realize the power that lies in our own life. And that each person and situation we encounter is a piece of the eventual puzzle that will form the picture that is our life.
Why do we need to think about this? Because too often, we take the little things that make up the whole for granted.
People, circumstances, and things we often deem “small” or “unimportant” for various reasons are anything but. When we do this, we miss out on beauty and opportunity. The treasure is often right under our feet (suggested reading: The Alchemist).
The things in your life, no matter how small, make up your life. Why not embrace them instead of ignoring them?
The people around you are a reflection of you. The things you do and the time you spend are a part of the sum that you are.
Fate brings you what it brings you. What you put into life is what determines fate. Destiny is not predetermined; it correlates precisely to what you do.
You must see clearly and objectively what is in front of you. Love with all your heart.
Don’t discount the beauty of the things in front of you because you are too focused on what is not in front of you. To do so is a grave error that will rob you of the joy and bliss available to you every moment of your life.
Be in the present with your entire being and share it with whatever is with you.
